The existence of Holt Lowes is bound up with geology (it lies at the southern end of the Holt-Cromer ridge, a glacial moraine) as well as the social and political history of the region – it was once part of ‘Holt Heath’ and is still technically a ‘Poors’ Allotment’. Most importantly, its chequered history has resulted in an area of outstanding interest for its wildlife, and a piece of wilderness set amidst an ordered landscape of plantations and fields. This website aims to tell the tale of a very special place for wildlife.
Important Information for this spring and summer
From April 1 to August 31st ALL dogs must be on a short lead. This is to protect all the wildlife of the Lowes, but especially ground nesting birds.
